“Ornament — Amazigh Woman” is an ink work inspired by the Amazigh culture, an indigenous people of North Africa whose identity, strength and sense of freedom have survived for millennia.
The Amazigh —“the free men”— preserve a powerful aesthetic that combines protective symbols, ancestral geometries and tattoos that are at the same time memory, lineage and amulet.
In this piece I represent an Amazigh woman with her traditional ornamentation: marks on the skin that tell stories, lines that protect, strokes that accompany throughout a lifetime.
For me, this culture has always been deeply emotional. In its symbols, I find something universal: the human need to keep our roots close to our hearts, to carry our history written on our bodies, to not forget who we were before becoming who we are.
While painting this piece, I felt that silent connection with all the women who have passed on their identity through small gestures: a tattoo, a piece of jewelry, a drawing. This woman's portrait is a tribute to that inherited strength, to that delicate resilience that travels from generation to generation.
“Ornamento” is part of Inktober 2025 , a collection where ink allowed me to explore cultures, symbols and emotions that resonate with my own sensibility.
