MY STORY

Hello! I would like to introduce myself.

English below.

My name is Carmen Sáez and I am a Spanish visual artist living in The Hague, Netherlands.

When I was studying Fine Arts in Murcia, Spain, I was a girl full of dreams and ideals. I wanted to see the world and I had a hunch that my destiny was to travel the world with my art.

I wanted to be inspired by different civilizations, people along the way and many, many adventures.

I was so thirsty for adventure that in my last year of college I had the opportunity to go to Istanbul, Turkey. There I worked as a dancer with the Baba Zula group and it was undoubtedly an experience that I will always keep in my heart. I could tell you a thousand anecdotes about that time.

When I returned to Murcia from Turkey in 2010, I finished my last Fine Arts exam and I came across a crisis , literally shaking the foundations of my life. I realized, or at least I thought, that there was no place for art anymore , that my fantasy world had ended and that it was time to accept that not all dreams come true.

That's how I came to the Netherlands in 2012. The first two years, which were very fun on the one hand, I also spent time starting from scratch.

I like to start over and create new realities, but I admit that it was an uphill struggle. I worked very hard and above all I wanted to find a place in Dutch society.

During this time I also met Sebas, my husband, who made me stay in this country out of love when I was fed up with the cold in Holland.

He taught me the love of nature in the Dutch forest and this would later greatly influence my painting.

Here I managed to become a Visual Arts teacher in the cities of Maastricht and Eindhoven. I studied hard for it, I dedicated my Master's Thesis to "Sustainability and International Education" and I got an Outstanding grade.

The truth is that I really liked the teaching, and thanks to preparing the topics and teaching them, I was able to reaffirm my knowledge and what is now my artistic discourse.

When my first son was born in 2018, I left everything to take care of him. More than a decision, I had the imminent need to paint , to return to what I lived and enjoyed, and above all, to the activity that made my soul feel at peace. I painted above all in the forest, in nature. I painted to fall in love with the land of my children.

And so, a month before the pandemic, in November 2019, I was commissioned to do a mural that had to be cancelled due to COVID. That's how my art business was born and after the pandemic it took shape.

I started teaching painting in The Hague and producing my own paintings. Today I am very proud of how far I have come and I look forward to the future.

I also realized that it is good to listen to the people around you, but more important is to listen to myself and be true to myself and my art.

Now you know a little more about me.
