MY STORY

Hello! I'd like to introduce myself.

English below.

My name is Carmen Sáez and I am a Spanish visual artist living in The Hague, Netherlands.

When I was studying Fine Arts in Murcia, Spain, I was a girl full of dreams and ideals. I wanted to see the world and had a feeling that my destiny was to travel the world with my art.

I wanted to be inspired by different civilizations, people along the way, and many, many adventures.

I was so thirsty for adventure that in my final year of college, I had the opportunity to go to Istanbul, Turkey. There, I worked as a dancer with the Baba Zula group, and it was definitely an experience I'll always treasure. I could tell you a thousand anecdotes from that time.

When I returned from Turkey to Murcia in 2010, I finished my final Fine Arts exam and faced a crisis ; the foundations of my life literally shook. I realized, or at least I thought, that there was no more room for art , that my fantasy world was over, and that it was time to accept that not all dreams come true.

That's how I came to the Netherlands in 2012. The first two years, which were very fun on the one hand, were also dedicated to starting from scratch.

I like starting over and creating new realities, but I recognize that it was an uphill struggle. I worked very hard and, above all, I wanted to find a place in Dutch society.

During this time I also met Sebas, my husband, who, when I was fed up with the cold in Holland, made me stay in this country out of love.

He taught me the love of nature in the Dutch forest and this would later greatly influence my painting.

Here I managed to become a Visual Arts teacher in the cities of Maastricht and Eindhoven. I studied hard for it, dedicated my Master's Thesis to "Sustainability and International Education," and earned an A+.

The truth is that I really enjoyed the teaching. Furthermore, by preparing and teaching the topics, I was able to reinforce my knowledge and what my artistic discourse now entails.

When my first son was born in 2018, I dropped everything to take care of him. More than a decision, I felt the imminent need to paint , to return to what I lived and enjoyed, and above all, to the activity that made my soul feel at peace. I painted mostly in the forest, in nature. I painted to fall in love with the land of my children.

And so, a month before the pandemic, in November 2019, I was commissioned to create a mural that had to be canceled due to COVID. That's how my art business was born, and after the pandemic, it took shape.

I started teaching painting classes in The Hague and producing my own artwork. Today, I'm very proud of how far I've come and look to the future with great excitement.

I also realized that it's good to listen to the people around you, but more important is to listen to myself and be true to myself and my art.

Now you know a little more about me.
