“Mother of Ice — Refuge in the Arctic” is an ink work inspired by one of the most moving stories in the animal world: the silent resistance of polar bear mothers.
They can go up to eight months without eating , living solely off their reserves to protect their young while they learn to walk, to smell the ice, to hear the wind.
That invisible sacrifice, that way of becoming a shelter, a cave, a guide… has always seemed to me a heroic act.
Not because of its spectacular nature, but because of its intimate character.
When they finally emerge from the burrow, the world is a silent, white desert. And yet, the mother forges ahead with a strength born only of profound love.
This work was born from that story and that symbolism:
Motherhood as a refuge , human or animal, as a space where tenderness and resilience coexist.
I wanted to capture that moment when the cub first leans on its mother's warmth, while outside everything is ice.
