Where the Inner Tide is Born

Where the Inner Tide is Born

“Where the Inner Tide is Born” is an ink work inspired by one of my deepest and most constant symbols: the mermaid .
Since my childhood, this being half woman half ocean has been for me a metaphor for sensitivity, freedom and creativity.
Mermaids were my first drawings, my first obsessions… even my first sales when I was a child, when I exchanged my illustrations for 25 pesetas.
My artistic story began there, among imagined turquoise and hair that floated like currents.

In this piece, the mermaid holds a starfish , a small but meaningful gesture.
The star is a guide, a compass of the sea, a symbol of rebirth.
For me, it represents our ability to find ourselves again even after losing our way.

The figure emerges from fluid shadows and strokes that expand like water. The ink creates soft movements, almost breaths, that evoke the ebb and flow of the ocean.
It is a work that speaks of intuition, of childhood, of that inner place where we still live close to the sea even though we are far from it.

It's part of Inktober 2025 , a collection where I turned memories, emotions, and personal symbols into ink and paper.
