“The dance of the corral”. The painting is based on the performance of the dancer and friend Cristiane Azem and her first dancer Myriam Soler about the book “The Dove’s Necklace” written by Ibn Hazm of Andalusian literature.

The composition is based on a painting by a Sevillian painter I admire, Baldomero Ressendi. Specifically, on the dance of the turkeys.

I wanted to study in depth everything that the painter expressed with his composition, drawing my attention most to the environment where the dance takes place, which is not known whether it is a dream, a stage or a tavern.

To prepare the painting, I read a lot about animals in Al-Andalus and I also learned a lot about how the Arabs used domestic animals.

A curious thing I learned is that the camel, which is the sacred animal of Islam, does not appear in any book from the times of Al-Andalus.

And there are also writings about his way of training carrier pigeons or obtaining a honeycomb from a piglet.

Another curiosity is that the color palette of the painting is based on the colors of the dance costumes of Cristiane Azem and Myriam Soler, the dancers who appear in my Painting.

Finally, this painting is a self-portrait. I wanted to highlight my return to the world of dance after the break I had with my years of motherhood.
